Tip #3
Welcome Back to our Excel Tips Series. This week’s tip has us pretty excited over here at Complete Software!
Do you need to know the number of unique item combinations in a given set of data? You’ll be happy to know that Microsoft has added distinct count of values to Pivot Tables in Excel 2013.
Here’s how to use it:
First, select any cell in the data source and click Insert -> PivotTable, as you normally would do. You will then need to make sure the “Add this data to the Data Model” box is checked.
Next, you will build your PivotTable, inserting items into the Rows and Values areas. Once the Values Field Settings dialog box opens, you will see that you can choose to summarize data from the selected field by Distinct Count.
When you click “OK” you will now be able to see your data summarized by distinct count!
(And a tip for those who do not have Excel 2013 yet: you can do this in Excel 2010 with Power Pivot!)
